A clever tile laying game. The southern French city of Carcassonne is famous for its unique Roman and Medieval fortifications. The players develop the area around Carcassonne and deploy their followers on the roads, in the cities, in the cloisters, and in the fields. The skill of the players to develop the area will determine who is victorious. Special rules for the 12 river tiles: Remove the special starting tile from the game. Instead, begin the game by laying the spring that starts the river. Set aside the lake tile and shuffle the remaining 10 river tiles face down and draw from these before drawing from the tiles from the normal game. These tiles are played and followers may be played as in the normal game with one exception: a river tile may not be placed so that the river makes a U turn. Followers may not be placed on rivers. Once these 10 river tiles have been played, the next player plays the lake and then play continues with the normal tiles. Klaus-Juergen Wrede created Carcassonne. It is for 2 to 5 players and takes about 60 minutes to play

"Great Game If You Have People to Play With" 2010-04-14
By Richard E. May Jr. (NJ, USA)
This is a great game that is an absolute must if you are looking for something different from the regular likes of Clue or Monopoly. The games don't have to be incredibly long either since it ends when you run out of tiles.

"Build your city, beat your friends" 2010-03-17

Carcassone is a great game. After you have played it a few times you pick up on the pretty basic rules. Strategy is involved, so I only recommend it for 12+ yr olds, but younger can play if they can pay attention for about an hour.

Easy rules, fun game, changes with every new person you play with.

"Great Game" 2010-03-06
By Michele Calamia (White Lake, MI)
Our son bought this game and my husband and I started playing it one day...I think we played 15 games that day. Once you get the hang of it the games only take about 30-40 minutes to play. The tiles and wooden pieces are very well made.

"Addicting!" 2010-02-26

I love this game.

At first, I wasn't sure I'd like the game because I was used to Settlers of Catan, and believe it to be the best game ever. Well, I still love Settlers, but I also like this game now. I play it as much as Settlers, in fact, because it's a slightly faster going game.

"If you like puzzles, then this game is for you :)" 2010-02-13
By Ryan M. Kane (Good 'ol US of A)
Great for children and adults, because the rules are easy to learn and plus the game does not take too long to play.
I am a great "Settlers of Catan" fan, but there have been times when 2 players was a problem. This game is great, because "Carcassonne" is fast-paced and exciting. There is so much to this all-so-simple game. I recommend buying "Inns and Cathedrals" and "Traders and Builders" if you really enjoy the "Base Game."

P.S: The version that I received came with the "River I Expansion" - Free of charge :)
