Editorial Review

Twister is the game that ties you up in knots. Spin the dial and move a hand or foot to the colored circle on the floor mat. Can you get there' dont touch the mat with anything but a hand or foot. It is for 2 or 4 players. It includes a spinner, a mat and instructions. Instructions are available in English and Spanish.
Over forty years old and going strong! Soon after its release in 1966, Twister was made instantly popular when Johnny Carson and Eva Gabor played it on The Tonight Show. Such a simple concept, with so much potential for hilarity. The game includes a plastic mat with red, blue, yellow, and green spots; a spinner; and instructions. To play (as if you didn’t already know…), two to four players face each other, with the plastic mat in the center. A referee spins the spinner, then calls out the body part and the color the arrow points to ("Left foot, blue," "Right hand, yellow"). All players, at the same time, follow the directions, placing the appropriate body part on a vacant circle. Players become increasingly entangled, until someone (or everyone) finally topples, and is eliminated. The last person standing—er, crouching—wins. If this doesn’t bring families and friends (and celebrities) closer together, we don’t know what does! Out-and-out fun. --Emilie Coulter

I bought this for my brother's daughter for Christmas and he tells me she still plays with it everyday and always wants to invite her friends over to play.

"Love this game!" 2009-12-04
By S. Boodoo (Trinidad, Caribbean)
I got the original Twister for my 12th birthday (or thereabouts). I am 23 years old and up to last weekend I've played it. Twister is another timeless game that can be enjoyed by persons of about 5 years old and up. I'll give you one important piece of advice: the younger you are, the easier it is to bend!

"Provided great indoor play for our son's 7th birthday party" 2009-10-25
By Jared Castle (Roseburg, Oregon United States)
We purchased Twister to entertain about 15 children at our son's seventh birthday party. We set up a game table with four other games - Perfection, Operation, Wild Planet Hyper Dash and iPlay Wok and Roll (I recommend you check out my Amazon reviews on these other games, too).

Behind the game table, we placed Twister on a wide area of carpeted floor. The only rule we established was that the kids had to take their shoes off to play. We did not hover over the group or explain the rules. One boy picked up the spinner board and gave it a twirl. He announced "left hand green" and the game began. Over the next two hours, the kids (3-to-8-years old) played all of the games, coming back to Twister to play in pairs, small groups or groups of only boys or girls.

Of all the games we placed out for the birthday party, Twister and Wild Planet Hyper Dash allowed the children to release their energy the most (that was handy after we served birthday cake). Keep that in mind as you look for indoor games to get you through the winter.

In summary, Twister consists of only a vinyl sheet and a spinner board, so you might think the game is too simple to entertain kids. However, that was not our experience. The children loved to tie themselves up in knots. Rating: Five stars.

"Good" 2009-07-26
By Raisa Pais (New York)
The package was received before the estimated date and in good condition. Thought the playing mat is prone to tear when not wearing socks, the game is fun and can be played by anyone. I would definitely buy from this seller again.

"A fabulous game" 2010-04-01
By G. West
A great game for adults. (don't know if good or not for kids, I expect teenagers would like it).
My 27 year old oldest daughter introduced it to us and now everyone in the family enjoys it. Several of us have bought our own edition. It's interesting how the cards selected at the beginning of the game change how it is played.
Both this and the other stand alone version of the game are wonderful. It's a card game and is also similar to a strategy board game, because you draw cards from 16 different stacks to allow you to win. Very interesting.
Similar to Risk, but doesn't take as long. Each game is 20-30 minutes for 2 people or 40-60 minutes for 6 people.

"Great as a standalone or a companion to Dominion" 2010-02-28
By Stevon Roberts (Corvallis, OR USA)
Dominion Intrigue is slightly more interactive than the original Dominion. Cards like Masquerade and Spy keep players engaged in the action even if it's not their turn. Intrigue also includes some victory cards that are functional during the game, which is a nice mechanic. My favorite card is Secret Chamber, which can be a powerful counter to some attacks.

"Intrigue is...intriguing." 2010-02-08
By K. A. Prothero (Midwest)
Expansion to the popular Dominion Card Game, Intrigue adds a whole host of new ways to mess with your opponents. This set create some interesting synergies with the base set and adds several fun tactical elements to the game. This set seeks to further strengthen Dominions greatest attribute: re-playability. Strongly recommended for any who have the base set and enjoy it.

"Fun as a Stand Alone or Combination Set" 2010-01-24
By J. Andreson (Boston, MA)
Dominion: Intrigue is a great game to play as a stand alone game or in combination with the original Dominion set. The additional cards represent a whole new playing field and challenge for the game overall. I really like the very noticeable difference between Intrigue and Dominion. While it is an expansion to the original set it also presents a uniquely different playing style and set.

"Same tune, new words" 2009-12-17
By W. Obenshain (Silver Spring, MD USA)
Before I get into reviewing this game - my personal experience says if you only have money for either Dominion or Dominion: Intrigue (either is playable on it's own), you're better off with the base Dominion game. The replay value is just as good and it has a lot of basic cards that the Intrigue expansion fails to make up for.
If you've played Dominion then you already know what to expect from this game. The biggest surprise here are the 3 sets of combo cards (2 victory/actions and 1 victory/treasure). Other notable features include cards with the ability to chose between several options and host of new cards designed to interfere with other players.
While it is important to note this box has all the cards necessary to play the game on it's own and over 3 million possible unique game scenarios (with 25 'special' cards, choosing 10 cards at a time) this game is much improved when combined with the base Dominion game, resulting in well over 12 billion unique scenarios (that's 51 special cards, still choosing 10 at a time). The replay value of Dominion and Dominion: Intrigue is truly unique.

My four year old son loves to play chess! He no longer even needs the cards to play chess he can do it him self thanks to this game. Now we are teaching his Dad how to play with it! My oldest son loves it because it puts a twist to the game when you are using the cards and you already know how to play. Because with the cards it is luck of the drawl.

It was my husband's idea to get "No Stess Chess" for the grandkids as a Christmas gift...I've never played, so after one of my granddaughters had tried it out with her Dad, she and I played together...She is 8 years old, and taught me as we went along by turning over the cards. I can't wait to try it again; This was a great learning experience involving vocabulary, strategy, critical thinking, etc., for anyone who has always wanted to learn "chess."

Excellent teaching tool for child and adult alike. It breaks down the process of the game so you can "get it" and not feel dumb -- LOL.
I bought it for my son, but now I can play too. I was always intimidated by chess, but this game made it very easy to learn.
I highly recommend it...it's worth every penny!

What We Think

(what this means)

The Good: Sleek and colorful new look gives this Scrabble set a touch of class.

The Bad: Carrying case doesn't shut.

In a Nutshell: A snazzy improved edition of Scrabble that's both fun and functional.

Ages: 8 and up
Expert Tips and Fascinating History
If you've never played Scrabble before, the Gameplay Guide explains the rules in a clear, easy-to-read way. It also has lots of tips to sharpen your game (a list of "q-without-u" words, for example). The sturdy plastic board needs no assembly and the storage trays cleverly built into the bottom of the board are easy to find, especially with help from the Gameplay Guide. The game also comes with a Gameplay Guide that offers many helpful hints, as well as interesting historical tidbits (For example, did you know the game used to be called "Criss Cross Words?")

A Sleek New Look for Scrabble
The black-and-silver tiles, the smoky red racks, and the velvety tile pouch give this Scrabble set a touch of class. The curvature of the racks help you to see your letters more easily than you could on the old, straight racks. During gameplay, the raised grid will help keep your tiles firmly in place, even when the board spins towards another player. The pouch helps keep all the letters and racks together during play. Put them in the storage trays when you're done, fold the board back up -- and voila -- you have a carrying case that makes this deluxe Scrabble game easy to take with you.

Fun and Functional
We really liked the look of this colorful board, with its cheerful blue, green, red, and orange "premium" squares. We also appreciated the way the set folds up into a carrying case, complete with the storage trays and handle. It's not advertised as a travel set, but you can use it that way. You just have to be careful to hold the set closed when transporting it, since it doesn't snap shut. Also, the storage trays can get a little full when you try to put all the letters and racks in one tray, so make sure you tuck everything neatly into the tray so it will close.

Millions of people around the world love the game of Scrabble, and we're sure they'll be just as happy as we are to see this new, improved edition with features that make it both more fun and more functional!

What's in the Box

"Great Game!" 2010-04-23

"Best Scrabble Ever" 2010-04-19
By Amanda L. Davis (Adrian,MI USA)
There are so many things I love about this version of Scrabble. First of all, the spots for the letters are recessed so the letters are held in place more securely. You don't bump them out of place while putting other letters on the board. I also love how the board swivels and folds in half to become a portable storage system for all the pieces. This is so great. I am really glad I bought it.

"Excellent buy!!" 2010-03-24
By K. Tripp (Detroit, MI)
After playing scrabble night after night with my 9 year old and my Mother on the "cheap" $8 version board, we decided to upgrade to a board that would swivel and keep the letters on the correct sqaures. After looking over all of the different Scrabble boards offered, I decided on this one. It is wonderful!! It folds in half with a handle for easy carry/travel, it has two drawers, and it has small wheels to swivel to each player with grooves that actually hold the tiles so they don't slide. It's the little things like these that can make a game so much more fun (especially for the adults). The one and only downside is that the four letter holders only hold 7 tiles, and my family likes to play the version with 9 tiles, so we had to switch out with our old set, which wasn't a big deal, but if you don't have an old set, make sure you're aware of this, because it wasnt' mentioned anywhere. Overall, it's an A+ game board for Scrabble!!

"Very satisfied with this version!" 2010-03-18
By Denise H. (Washington, DC)
I was looking for a Scrabble game with the raised grid, but at an affordable price. Turns out this version also comes in its own portable case and swivels like some of the more costly versions. It's more than I expected and I absolutely love it!

"Wonderful Gift from Grammy to 5, 3 and 2-year-old GrandKids" 2010-03-25
By J. Malone (Apex, North Carolina United States)
When I read the reviews of this game, I decided to order it for my grandkids who live far, far away. I like to imagine the fun they have while playing games, reading books or watching videos that I send to them. And the kids were so enthusiastic that the 5-year-old grandson did not have to be cajoled to tell his grandparents over the phone "Thank You!" He was quite articulate in describing what he enjoyed about Richard Scarry's BusyTown game! I heartily recommend the game to you and your family!

"Love this game, but disagree with comments on durability" 2010-01-01
By It'sJessMe (Philadelphia, PA USA)
We've had this game for about a month and my boys (3 and 6) adore it. The Busytown books are their favorites - so this was just a delight for them. I loved seeing their faces when they opened it, and as everyone else says, it's beautifully drawn and teaches them to work together. And fun for adults too.

But, maybe because they play it so often (5-6 times a day for a month) I disagree about the durability. On one of the board pieces, the paper with the drawing is already coming off, (actually, as I was about to hit Publish, my kids started setting up the board to play - and the paper came off entirely) and I've had to tape a couple of the character pieces to get them to fit into their bases, because they wore out so quickly.

It's not a big deal, we can easily fix them and it doesn't detract from how great the game is, but I did want to offer a counter view on the durability.

"Fun with Huckle, Sally, and Lowly!" 2009-12-30
By M. Keating
My son got this game for Xmas and we have all had lots of fun playing with it. The board is huge and full of Busytown favorites. I love that the players work together to beat the pigs-- it's a nice intro to game playing. The Goldbug clues are fun and the game is just the right length for my 3 YO. The only thing I don't like is that because the game is so large, it must be played on the floor. My young daughter wants to play too but the game is full of choking hazards! We wait for her nap time to play, but it's worth the wait!

"Great Game" 2009-12-28

This is a fantastic game. My kids loved the character pieces. The game is simple to learn, but tons of cooperative fun to play. The board is beautifully illustrated and durable. The pieces are the most durable I've seen in recent games. Highly recommended.

"VERY Creative Game" 2009-12-27
By Lorie Robinson
My three-year-old daughter received this game for Christmas, and what a treat it is. The whole family, including my husband and six-year-old son, loves playing this game together. I've never heard of a board game quite like it. Individual players take turns trying to traverse the game board before the Pig Family eats all the picnic goodies. Players have to work together to solve "I Spy"-type mysteries. The pieces are clever, the game board is unique, and the team aspect really created a fun way for us to win or lose together. Whether your child is a Richard Scarry fan or not, this game is a terrific choice for kids; although I wouldn't give it to an older kid (6+?), the older kids have just as much fun playing as the younger ones.
